BIOGRAPHY - SARA BAREILLES

A gifted singer and a versatile pianist with no formal training, Sara Bareilles burst onto the pop scene with a naturally skilled voice that ranged from powerful and soulful to sweet and gentle, earning her instant comparisons to Fiona Apple and Norah Jones. Grammy-nominated Sara Bareilles kicked off the new year by heading back out on the road for her third set of headlining dates in support of her gold-certified debut album "Little Voice", featuring the Grammy-nominated Song of the Year, "Love Song". Following her extremely successful string of fall dates, Sara will officially hit the road on February 11th at the Birchmere in Alexandria, VA, and will cover 11 major cities across America, wrapping things up at The Hotel Café in Los Angeles. Joining Sara on tour this winter is soulful singer-songwriter, opening act Tony Lucca.

Since the release of her debut album, "Little Voice", Sara Bareilles has become the breakout artist of 2008. With over 1 million albums sold worldwide, two Grammy nominations for her hit single Love Song in the categories of Song of the Year and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance under her belt, a top 5 selling album at iTunes for 2008, and the #1 adult contemporary song of the year, Saras voice is anything but little. Her unique style stands in a class of her own mixing pop, soul and jazz that reveals an incredible vocal prowess. By February 14, 2008, "Little Voice" was certified Gold by the RIAA. The album peaked in the Billboard 200 at #7. Bareilles' single, "Love Song" was was certified 2x platinum in April 2008. She toured with Counting Crows and Maroon 5 between July 22 and August 26, 2008. The first stop was Virginia Beach, Virginia and the last stop Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. Bareilles was selected as MTV artist of the week for July 7-11 and appeared again on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno on Wednesday, July 9, 2008; and on December 9, 2008 (with Ingrid Michaelson). On October 28, 2008, Bareilles released "Live At The Fillmore" on DVD and CD. Live At The Fillmore which captured the artists sold-out concert in the San Francisco filmed on July 12th at the iconic venue, The Fillmore. In addition, Sara is featured on the incredible holiday compilation, Hotel Café Presents Winter Songs, whereby she wrote and recorded the title track and gorgeous ballad, Winter Song with fellow singer-songwriter Ingrid Michaelson. The package is a recording of her first headlining tour at the famous Fillmore in San Francisco. She concluded the tour in her home town of Eureka, California on December 19, 2008, at the Arkley Center for the Performing Arts.

During the spring of 2009 Bareilles will be on her second headlining tour--the "Gravity Tour," to promote her third and final single from her album Little Voice. She made her second appearance in Charlottesville, VA during UVA's annual Springfest on March 28, her first being an opening for Maroon 5. Bareilles will also be playing multiple college shows in April and May. Some are for college students only and others are open to the public.
